Padres, Marlins, Don’t Start on Time

The Marlins are 29th overall in NRFI across the entire MLB. Miami is averaging 0.27 first inning runs this season.

They’re not much better at home. The Marlins score on average 0.30 runs in the first inning of games at loanDepot Park. They’ve gone without a first inning run through each of their last three home games.

So are we taking Marlins NRFI or what.

Collecting on average 0.24 runs in the first inning this season in road games, San Diego is the best NRFI road bet in the NL. In all of MLB, only the Detroit Tigers (0.14) are worse at scoring on the road in the first inning than the Padres.

Pick: Padres vs Marlins NRFI (-150)

Dodgers, Brewers Get After the YRFI

At 0.72 runs per game, the Dodgers are MLB’s best best on the YRFI. They scored five first-inning runs in their last game are are averaging, 1.67 first-inning runs over the past three games.

Adding to the Dodgers YRFI prowess is Monday’s LA starting pitcher Julio Urias. He’s showing a 3.68 first-inning ERA. Urias has surrendered more first inning earned runs (9) and home runs (5) than in any other inning.

Since allowing five runs in the first inning on July 10, Julio Urías has allowed four runs in his last 33 innings.

At home, the Brewers are a solid 0.76 runs per game in the first inning. That’s tied for third in all of baseball. The Dodgers (0.68 RPG) are the best YRFI club on the road in MLB.

Pick: Dodgers vs Brewers YRFI (-105)

Athletics, Rangers Displaying Pop-Gun NRFI Attacks

The Texas Rangers rate 20th in MLB for NRFI. They’ve scored 0.46 runs per first inning this season. By contrast, the Oakland Athletics are averaging 0.41 runs per first inning. That’s 24th in MLB.

Texas was the worst NRFI team in MLB last season. The Rangers scored 0.41 runs per game in the first inning during the 2021 campaign.

Neither the Rangers or Athletics have allowed a first inning run over the past three games.

Texas right-hander Glenn Otto, who gets the nod from the Rangers, is displaying a 4.24 first inning ERA. He’s allowed 8 earned runs in 17 innings.

By contrast, Oakland starter James Kaprielian is a stingy first inning hurler. His first inning ERA is a paltry 2.50. Kaprielian has allowed five earned runs in 18 first innings worked.

Pick: Athletics vs Rangers NRFI (-115)
