It’s the battle of left-handers here as David Peterson gets the ball for the Mets, while the Marlins counter with Daniel Castano.

Mets vs Marlins Probable Pitchers

Peterson has made 10 appearances for New York this season and eight starts. He’s gone 4-1 with a solid 3.18 ERA, striking out 42 hitters in 45.1 innings of work. Although Peterson has dealt with command problems at times (22 walks), he’s managed to steer clear of any serious trouble.

David Peterson’s seven strikeouts yesterday are a season-high mark. The last time he struck out that many was on 5/14/2021 when he whiffed nine. #Mets #LGM (via @SNYtv) pic.twitter.com/WCGZSfJL2i

Last time out, the southpaw actually faced the Marlins, limiting them to six hits and no runs across six frames while racking up seven K’s. That’s a good sign ahead of another outing against Miami.

Castano has been in the big leagues and minor leagues this season, making eight appearances for Miami. This will be just his third start of 2022 and the lefty is hoping to bounce back from a dismal outing on June 21st. The 27-year-old surrendered four earned runs and seven hits before being chased after 3.1 innings by the Rockies.

The former Baylor owns a 3.75 ERA against New York in his short career in the Majors, allowing five earned in 12 innings. This is the first time he’ll face them in 22′.

Mets Looking For The Sweep

New York is sitting at the top of the NL East with a 47-26 after Saturday’s win and will be looking to sweep the Marlins here. The Mets beat them 5-3 in each of the first two contests, with Chris Bassitt throwing a gem in Game 2, allowing three runs across seven innings.

NY banged out 11 hits with Pete Alonso leading the way as he went 2 for 4 with two solo bombs. He’s sitting at +1000 in NL MVP odds. Brandon Nimmo also had three hits, while Francisco Lindor and Starling Marte did their part at the plate, too.

Can The Fish End Losing Streak Vs. Mets?

Miami isn’t playing great baseball as a whole this season but they’ve particularly struggled against the Mets, losing three straight. In fact, the Marlins have only managed to win one of their last seven meetings with them.

Trevor Rogers was done after just 4.1 innings on Saturday after allowing three runs on seven hits and the bullpen did a decent job of limiting the Mets until late in the game. Miami’s offense only mustered up six hits though and frankly didn’t have a ton of scoring opportunities outside of the three runs, stranding two runners.

Mets vs Marlins Pick

New York has come out victorious in six of Peterson’s last seven outings. From that trend alone, I’m liking the Mets here to continue their winning streak versus Miami. Take them to cover the runline. Huge value at +120.

Pick: Mets -1.5 (+120)
