Pick #1: Nathan MacKinnon Anytime Goalscorer

Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon will look to start the Stanley Cup Final with a bang in Game 1. The superstar leads the entire NHL Playoffs in goalscoring with 11 goals in 14 games. His strong play is a big reason the Avs are favored over the Bolts in the NHL odds.

MacKinnon is a good bet to score in Game 1 due to his previous performances in the opening game of a playoff series. The Halifax native has scored in four of his last five Game 1’s, including versus Nashville and Edmonton in the 2022 NHL Playoffs.

MacKinnon also tends to perform very well against the Lightning. In 15 career games versus Tampa Bay, MacKinnon has netted 10 goals and 23 points. The Avs’ star played a big role in the team’s two victories over the Bolts this season, notching one goal and two assists.

MacKinnon is +142 to score a goal in the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook. That’s pretty solid value given the Lightning vs Avalanche Game 1 odds heavily favor Colorado. Look for MacKinnon to lead the way as the Avs make a statement in Game 1.

Pick: Nathan MacKinnon Anytime Goalscorer (+142)

Top 4 Stanley Cup Finals Betting Offers for Tampa Bay vs Colorado Series

Pick #2: Andrei Vasilevskiy Over 32.5 Saves

Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy will need to be at his best for his team to have a chance in the Stanley Cup Final. Even though the 2022 Stanley Cup odds favor Colorado, the Bolts are only listed as +160 underdogs primarily due to the skill of Vasilevskiy.

Vasilevskiy should be in for a busy Game 1 against this explosive Colorado offense. The Avalanche recorded 40-plus shots on goal in each of their four wins over Edmonton in the Western Conference Final. They have no shortage of weapons as the NHL’s highest-scoring team.

Even though oddsmakers are projecting Colorado to light the lamp in the Cup Final, Vasi’s outstanding playoff track record can’t be ignored. The Russian netminder owns a .925 career playoff save percentage and can keep games close against explosive offenses.

Colorado and Tampa Bay played once this season at Ball Arena, and Vasilevskiy made 44 saves in a 3-2 loss. The Avalanche have averaged 40 shots on goal in Game 1’s this year and should pepper Vasilevskiy enough to make the “over” on his save prop hit.

The Bolts’ defense was excellent against the low-scoring Rangers in the ECF, which is likely why Vasilevskiy’s save total for Game 1 isn’t as high as it should be. A good comparison for Colorado’s offense is Florida, which averaged 38 shots per game vs Tampa in Round 2.

Pick: Andrei Vasilevskiy Over 32.5 Saves (-112)
