If the experts are right, Alabama and Ohio State will meet in the 2022-23 CFP Championship Game on Jan. 9 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

The Crimson Tide and Buckeyes figure to be ranked No. 1 and No. 2 when the Associated Press media and USA Today coaches’ polls are released later this month.

Time will tell which team will win more games during the 2022 season. However, you can bet on it because DraftKings has Alabama-Ohio State among 11 head-to-head regular season win total props available.

The props do not count conference championship games or the CFP – only the regular season.

With that said, here’s a look at three of the matchups and my best bets:

Alabama vs Ohio State

This is the marquee matchup among the prop bets. Both have premier quarterbacks with Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young returning for the Crimson Tide and C.J. Stroud for the Buckeyes.

Stroud is a +200 favorite in the Heisman odds and Young is the second choice at +400.

Both teams should win a lot of games – the over/under is 10.5 for each in the College Football win totals — but we’ll give the edge to the Crimson Tide. While coach Nick Saban must replace many of his skill position players on offense, standout tight end Cameron Latu returns and running back Jahmyr Gibbs, a transfer from Georgia Tech, was the hit of spring drills.

Alabama has another Heisman Trophy candidate in edge rusher Will Anderson, who had 33.5 tackles for loss and 17.5 sacks last season. A case can be made that Anderson is the best defensive player in the country. He is a big reason the Crimson Tide are +213 favorites in the National Championship odds.

Stroud and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba should help Ohio State light up the scoreboard while comprising possibly the best pass-and-catch combination in the country.

However, one concern for Ohio State is how quickly it can adjust to the 4-2-5 scheme being installed by new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles.

Cincinnati vs Notre Dame

Notre Dame has a new head coach as defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman was promoted to replace Brian Kelly, who stunned the Fighting Irish by leaving for LSU. Meanwhile, Luke Fickell was rumored to be the leading candidate to take over for Kelly after leading Cincinnati to the CFP last season before deciding to stay with the Bearcats.

Notre Dame plays a stronger schedule than Cincinnati. However, Freeman seems to have the Fighting Irish well-positioned for a big season with one of the best defensive units in the country, featuring linebacker JD Bertrand and safety Brandon Joseph.

Cincinnati has some major rebuilding to do. Quarterback Desmond Ridder, a four-year starter, has moved on to the NFL along with All-America cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner.

Clemson vs Michigan

These two programs transposed themselves last year. Clemson missed the CFP for the first time since 2014 while Michigan, a perennial underachiever under coach Jim Harbaugh, broke through with a Big Ten title and playoff berth.

Michigan returns quarterback QB Cade McNamara and has outstanding depth at the position with J.J. McCarthy returning as QB2. Also back are wide receivers Cornelius Johnson and Roman Wilson along with tight end Erick All.

Clemson’s problems in 2021 stemmed from an inconsistent offense. D.J. Uiagalelei lost the starting QB job last season but goes to camp back atop the depth chart, though he will be challenged by early enrollee Cade Klubnik.

Neither have proven they can win big at the college level. McNamara and McCarthy have.
