Sky Looking Like League’s Top Team

Chicago has been one of the most consistent teams in the league to start the year, riding a five-game winning streak while looking like a strong favorite to try and defend their WNBA title won a year ago.

The Sky not only sit atop the league record-wise, but they are also leading the WNBA in field goal percentage (47.8 percent), three-point percentage (37.3 percent), assists (24), and are second in points per game (86).

Chicago has looked like the WNBA’s best team once again, and it has even taken down some of the other top teams in the league recently. The Sky enter Wednesday’s game having defeated Connecticut and Phoenix, scoring 91 points and shooting over 50 percent from the field in both games.

Lynx Starting to Turn Things Around

Minnesota started the season off rough, mainly due to injuries and roster changes that have put it in a hole right out of the gate. The Lynx began the year 3-13, dropping to the bottom spot in the standings immediately.

Minnesota has looked much better as of late and has turned things around, however, rattling off four victories over the last six games to slowly rebuild hope to fight back into the playoff picture. Part of that turnaround has been the Lynx ability to play with a consistent rotation, which has resulted in the team going from one of the worst offensive teams in the league to leading the league in scoring over the last two weeks with 91.3 points a contest.

Key to the Game

One of the biggest keys in this game will be which team is going to stand up defensively and hold the opposition in check on that end of the floor.

Chicago and Minnesota can certainly put up points, with the Sky ranking second in points per game (86) and the Lynx ranking fifth with 82. But defensively, Minnesota is tied for 11th in the WNBA in defensive rating (104.4) while Chicago is fifth (98.0).

Whoever can put their foot down defensively while limiting errors on their own sides offensively will come out on top Wednesday.

Sky vs Lynx Prediction and Best Bet

On the surface, Chicago looks like it should be the team that runs away with this game and heads into the All-Star break winners of six straight. But Minnesota, despite its rough start to the season, has been playing much better as of late. With that in mind, this game should be an entertaining battle in Minneapolis, likely decided by single digits at the end similar to the first two games of the season series which have been decided by an average of 3.5 points.

In the end, the Sky will prove to be too much for the improving Lynx to handle, coming out on top in this contest to improve to 8-3 on the road while building onto their lead in the standings. The loss would drop Minnesota to a 4-8 record at home with them heading into the break in the regular season as one of the bottom teams in the WNBA.

For the best bet of the night, go with over the total of 171.5. This game should be a high-scoring affair, resulting in Chicago and Minnesota covering that total.

The Pick: Over 171.5 (-112)
